Fall Wedding

Lily + Aaron: A Lovely Wedding in the Park

LilyAaronBlog-2002.jpg

These two beat the pre-winter chill and had a sweet, simple, and intimate wedding in the park, followed by a fun night of celebrating at One Barrel Brewing

And boy was it cold! But Lily + Aaron were troopers, and the spiked hot cider didn’t hurt either!

Lily was stunning, surprising no one, and look at the detail on the back of her dress! Holy smokes was that pretty! I love details like that!

There were some beautiful moments (obviously!) but there were also the funny ones, like when Lily’s Dad was about to walk her down the aisle, and remembered he still had his camo hat on and tossed it into a nearby bush. There was Lily’s veil trying to hit Aaron in the face over and over again, and succeeding a few times too. ;)

Congratulations to Lily + Aaron, and thank you both so much for inviting me to come hang out with you and celebrate! If you’d like to check out their engagement photos (which I would recommend since they’re so darn cute!) click here.

Tamara + Greg: A Luscious, Jewel-Toned Wisconsin Wedding

TamaraGregBlog-1051.jpg

Holy smokes, this wedding was GORGEOUS!

Tamara + Greg met on OKCupid and after a first date which consisted of a few beers and Battleship (Tamara won), they both knew something cool was happening! Now this awesome couple loves to travel together, and actually got engaged at a castle in Scotland (how is that for a story they’re going to be able to tell for ages!)

All of the little details that went into this wedding day were fantastic. From Tamara’s polka dot wedding dress (what?!) to the jewel-toned color scheme of the flowers and decor, to the cozy, high-backed chairs for the couple to sit in and the S’mores given out as favors, everything about this wedding was awesome.

Thanks for having Rob and I celebrate with you two!

Andrea + Adam: An Intimate and Chill Madison Wedding

AndreaAdamTeasers-1011.jpg

Great things can happen when you both swipe right…

Yep, that’s right, these two met on Tinder, and hit it off immediately. One of the things that stood out to me on their wedding day was how freaking excited they were to be marrying each other, and how pumped their kids were as well! Both Andrea + Adam have 2 kids from previously marriages, and these 4 are already thick as thieves. All 4 kids stood up with their parents as the wedding party, and part of the wedding ceremony was a little bonding ritual of sand to symbolize the blending of their newly formed family, which I loved. :) It was so sweet and meaningful it brought most of the guests to tears!

Andrea + Adam were also kind enough to indulge me in stopping by my favorite local mural (Try a Little Tenderness, the Otis Redding mural on Willy St.) and also to pop by the UW Arboretum to do some photos with the last of the fall colors.

This wedding was one of my favorites of the year, as I’m quite a fan of intimate weddings, and I’m so excited that Andrea + Adam invited me to celebrate with them! Congrats you two!

Shannon + Chris: A Sweet Wedding for Two Adventurous Spirits

ShannonChrisBlog-1017.jpg

These two adventurers planned a wedding and an international move all at the same time!

Shannon + Chris met at Greenbush Bar in the spring of 2015 and hit it off quickly, bonding over being in the 99.9 percentile of height and a shared love of pizza, the outdoors, and getting in the last word. Chris loved Shannon's enthusiasm and sense of adventure, and Shannon thought Chris was endearingly goofy and smart, despite finding out that his basketball loyalties lay with with the Kentucky Wildcats (woo hoo!) and that he somehow despised chocolate. They continued dating that summer and it was full of rock climbing, concerts on the square, and visits to the zoo.

They also love traveling, and have traveled to 12 countries together - Watching the macaques in Gibraltar, sea fishing in Iceland, climbing a via ferrata in the Pyrenees, remaining civil over 2,900 km across Spain in a tiny smart car, and swaying around a mid-summer bonfire in Latvia. But it was right here in Madison, on a walk through Allen Centennial Gardens, that Chris asked Shannon to marry him.

These two adventurers also took on the adventure of moving to Bristol, England shortly after their wedding (the next week in fact), and I’m sure wherever their curious and adventurous spirits take them will be filled with love and joy! :)

Check out the photos from Shannon + Chris’ fun and intimate Goodman Community Center wedding and join us in wishing them the best with their move!

Ashley + Geoff: A fandom-themed Wedding

AshleyGeoffTeasers-1014.jpg

This spectacular DIY offbeat wedding was one-of-a-kind!

“This will be a nerd wedding!” was the warning I got from Ashley + Geoff when they first booked us, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint!

For two awesome humans who met at a zombie larp (what?!), they had the amazingly nerdy wedding you would expect, and it was glorious. Each guest table was decorated with a different ‘fandom’, from Harry Potter, to Dresden Files (yay!), to Conan the Barbarian, and everything in between. Their card holder was a hand-made sarlacc pit (complete with little skeleton bride + groom). Their cake was Star Wars and Alien themed. And the list goes on. I knew this was going to be a fun wedding!

Following the short and sweet ceremony, in which Ashley’s dad, dressed as Darth Vader, walked her down the aisle, we went to take photos inside the Cave of the Mounds, which was a first for me! I can now say I understand how to light cave shots, so that’s new and exciting! ;) Then we got to enjoy the brief reprieve from the rain and take some photos under a dark & stormy sky, which complimented Ashley’s black and white dress and black veil so damn well. I’ve never been so happy to see clouds!

You could tell everyone, including the two of them, were having a great time celebrating, and let’s face it, after the actual getting married part, that’s what a wedding is all about!

We are so happy to have been able to celebrate with Ashley + Geoff. Check out some of our favorite moments from the day, and a big congrats to these two!

Alyssa + Tyler: A Fun-Loving Downtown Madison Wedding!

AlyssaTylerBlog-1058.jpg

Mission #1: Have fun and celebrate!

When I first met with Alyssa + Tyler, I remember they were both super clear about their wedding day priorities. First, get married, second, have fun! They wanted to make sure their guests, and their friends in the wedding party were going to have a blast, and they absolutely accomplished both goals!

Alyssa + Tyler had their first date a little over 5 years ago, after meeting through mutual friends at UW Eau Claire (both friends were members of the wedding party, and are getting married themselves next year). They moved to Madison in August of 2015, and spend a lot of time camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and biking.

When it came to planning their wedding, I loved all of the classic details they picked, and how they focused on things that were bound to help everyone have a good time! Following the ceremony at Pres House, the wedding party went to the Silver Dollar (where Rob and I got to play Jukebox DJ) and hung out, before heading over to the Capitol building, and the newly remodeled Brocach on the square! Normally the couples' photos are a more intimate affair, but Alyssa + Tyler had quite an audience as we were taking their photos on the Capitol lawn, and somehow managed to keep a straight face!

The reception, hosted at Madison Masonic Center, had great food, great desserts (seriously, they had Cookie Monster cupcakes that were to die for), and awesome music, courtesy of Sava with Jukebox Bandstand. Sava kept everyone on the dance floor, right up through the arrival of Bucky Badger! (Side Note: I freaking love when Bucky Badger crashes a wedding!) When we headed out, the bride, groom, and wedding party, plus a whole bunch of guests were dancing up a storm and having a ball.

I'd say mission accomplished!

Congrats to Alyssa + Tyler! We could not be more excited to have been a part of your wedding day!

Kelly + Matt: A Madison Library Wedding

A Wedding with a Literary Twist!

If we had to use 3 words to describe Kelly + Matt’s wedding, it would be colorful, genuine, and FUN! These two are clearly joyful individuals, and as a couple, they really shine bright (look at those smiles)! We loved how all of the little details of the wedding were so perfectly suited to them – the table themes were famous authors, the centerpieces were notable books, and the reception itself was in the Madison Central Library. One of our favorite local vendors, Wood Violet Events + Styling, partnered with Kelly + Matt to create the atmosphere they were going for, and the results were amazing! We loved loved loved this wedding!

Susannah + Kyle: A Kenosha WI Wedding

Ever since I did their engagement photos, I've been so darn excited about photographing Susannah + Kyle's wedding! As we walked around the UW-Madison campus, they told me how they met (both in school at UW for Engineering), fell in love, and eventually ended up moving to Michigan together. It was so evident when they told me their story how attached they were to Wisconsin, and the experiences they had there, and how much places mean to them, so it was obviously no surprise that their wedding day was filled with places that were special and meaningful to them too, but this time in Kenosha, where Kyle's family lives! Susannah + Kyle's was the perfect introduction to Kenosha because of the sightseeing we got to do as we drove around to different locations for their photos, like the Anderson Arts Center, the Southport Beach House, and Petrified Springs. The Southport Beach House in particular had this awesome vibe and was right on the water. So. Dreamy. Their ceremony and reception took place at the UW-Parkside Ballroom. If you spend any time with Susannah, Kyle, or their families, you'll see just how loving and wonderful they are, and how much they care about others, and the places they're from, and their history. It was really neat to see, and we were honored to celebrate with them!

Laura + Jereme: A New Orleans Wedding

So I'm still easing back into regular life after returning from New Orleans yesterday, where I was photographing the wedding of two fantastic humans, Laura + Jereme. If one can say anything about my first wedding in New Orleans (or my first trip to New Orleans for that matter) it's that it was quirky, out of this world fun, and fabulous! Which, incidentally, is how I would describe both Laura + Jereme. We did an outdoor session near Pinot House, close to downtown, prior to the wedding itself, which took place at Venusian Gardens on Chartres Street. The wedding was at night, just after twilight, in a candlelit garden, and the reception was in the main hall, filled with all kinds of awesome glass and metal sculptures. You really had to be there, but the very next best thing is taking a stroll down memory lane with me, and checking out the festivities of these two cool cats for yourselves!

Daniel + Seth: A Clue-Themed WI Wedding

Daniel + Seth had one of the most fun, intimate, and creative weddings we've ever had the good fortune to photograph! I mean, who doesn't want to be involved in a  Clue-themed wedding, complete with candlesticks, lead pipes, and  toy guns for props?! The ceremony held in Olbrich Conservatory in Madison, WI, and the reception at Louisianne's in Middleton, WI. The amazing cake (seriously, wait until you see it!) was made by Gigi's and make sure to scroll all the way to the end to see the surprise this cake (and these two awesome grooms) had in store for these wedding guests!

Krystin + Tim: Magical DOwntown Wi Wedding

Kristin + Tim have known each other for years. To hear them tell the story, there were a lot of near misses when it came to the start of their relationship, but eventually, following a pre-dawn hangout and some delicious pastries, it all came together. I'm happy to say the same thing about the wedding (with extra !!!) in that they planned this phenomenal, personal, and magical wedding in about two months (can someone give Krystin a medal already?!), and wow did it turn out lovely! There was the venue (who doesn't love Madison Children's Museum?!), the jaw-dropping florals from Lewiston Farms, Delicious cake from Karen the Cake Lady, and finally, the super fun live band experience that only The Red Hot Horn Dawgs can bring! The weather even cooperated! It was such a treat to work with these two lovebirds, and we're so excited to share these photos with you.

Lindsey + Chris: A Luxe meets Rustic WI wedding

LC_Blog-1067.jpg

Before Lindsey + Chris' wedding, I wouldn't have thought that luxe and rustic would go together as descriptive terms, but boy was I wrong! They were married on Lindsey's parent's property (the yet to be named property is hopefully going to become a wedding venue in the future and we CANNOT wait!) The attention to detail and thoughtful little nuances that made Lindsey + Chris' wedding day super special and personal, as well as the energy those two had together, just blew us away. I could go on for days about the gorgeous and colorful details of the wedding day, the electric way that Lindsey + Chris interacted, and how loving and happy all of their friends and family were to celebrate with them, but I'm going to let these photos speak my 1,000 words for me.
