Madison Wedding

Bailey + Mason: A Romantic Orpheum Theater Wedding

Bailey + Mason had a romantic as hell wedding at the orpheum in madison, wi

When asked to tell a little story that gave me a glimpse into what their love was all about, Bailey said frankly that she was reminded Mason was the one every time he put up with her puns (and vice versa) and I think that says a lot about how much these two value having a good time together (and a good laugh because puns are hilarious)!

Hanging out with the Bailey’s side of the wedding party during the getting ready portion of the day was nothing short of magical! We sang along to Toto’s Africa (as one does) and just generally had a ball. When it was time for the first look, Bailey made her entrance via that awesome staircase in Orpheum’s grand lobby, and then we were off for some fun rainbow colored wedding party photos, including a guest appearance from Woodford, their Chow/Lab mix!

The ceremony was gorgeous (I’m gonna be honest, I wasn’t sure how hard lighting would be in the balcony of the Orpheum, but it was pretty sweet and if any of you are considering getting married, there, you should do it!) and the reception was fun and funny and filled with joy; All the things a wedding reception should be, including some pretty hilarious toast pranks!

Enjoy the photos of these two, and join me in wishing a big congratulations to Bailey + Mason!

Michelle + Alice: An Intimate Lakeside Madison Wedding

Michelle + Alice had a laid-back and family-centered summer wedding overlooking gorgeous lake Mendota

When Michelle first approached me about photographing her wedding to Alice, she was up front that it was going to be a small shindig, and that they were only looking for a small number of photos, but one of the things that was most important to her was being able to have photos not just of her and Alice, but also of the two of them with Michelle’s 5 year old daughter, Maddie as well.

Michelle talked a lot about how special the relationship was between Alice and Maddie, and as a person who knows how pivotal a step-parent relationship can be (and so thankful that my kiddo has two amazing step-parents who love him dearly and who he loves just as much), it was so wonderful to see the really neat bond between Alice and Maddie.

On the day itself, both brides looked joyful and radiant (love has that effect on folks), and so damn happy and excited it made me smile from ear to ear! After the first look at Alice’s parents’ house, we headed over to a friends house right on Lake Mendota for the wedding ceremony! Right when I met Maddie, she dubbed me ‘her’ photographer, and proceeded to show me the dolls that Michelle + Alice made at her request that looked like the two of them (who Maddie calls Mama and Mommy, respectively). I was impressed by the ingenuity of the dolls, because, as Michelle pointed out, it’s actually pretty hard to find a butch lesbian asian doll, so they basically made one, and I’d say they did a pretty great job.

Once everyone had a little food in them, it was time for the ceremony. For what was to be a fairly short ceremony, I was moved to tears on more than one occasion as Michelle + Alice not only promised to love and care for one another, but also read their own vows to Maddie centered around family and unity. *I’m not crying, you’re crying*

The ceremony ended and as I packed up to head out, I still had that big smile on my face because Michelle + Alice’s wedding was a sweet reminder of how amazing love can be, and because I could tell these two awesome humans view love similarly to how I do, which is a thing you do, not just a thing you feel.

Enjoy the photos, and thank you for having me there to celebrate with you!

Krystal + Jake: A Lego-Themed Madison Winter Wedding

Doesn’t this wedding seem wonderfully Frozen-inspired?

Krystal+Jake had a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L winter wedding day. It was cold as all get out, but so worth it, because just look at these first look photos and wedding party photos in that pretty February snow! Also, check out Krystal’s awesome use of a veil-turned-wedding-cape cuz holy smokes. <3

These two sweethearts also let us throw so much glitter at them to get that fun confetti shot, laughed and celebrated with their friends and families, and danced the night away. We loved how affectionate Krystal + Jake were with each other all day. They were so fun to photograph!

We are so honored to have been able to celebrate with Krystal+Jake, and take a look at their wedding day below!

Andrea + Adam: An Intimate and Chill Madison Wedding

Great things can happen when you both swipe right…

Yep, that’s right, these two met on Tinder, and hit it off immediately. One of the things that stood out to me on their wedding day was how freaking excited they were to be marrying each other, and how pumped their kids were as well! Both Andrea + Adam have 2 kids from previously marriages, and these 4 are already thick as thieves. All 4 kids stood up with their parents as the wedding party, and part of the wedding ceremony was a little bonding ritual of sand to symbolize the blending of their newly formed family, which I loved. :) It was so sweet and meaningful it brought most of the guests to tears!

Andrea + Adam were also kind enough to indulge me in stopping by my favorite local mural (Try a Little Tenderness, the Otis Redding mural on Willy St.) and also to pop by the UW Arboretum to do some photos with the last of the fall colors.

This wedding was one of my favorites of the year, as I’m quite a fan of intimate weddings, and I’m so excited that Andrea + Adam invited me to celebrate with them! Congrats you two!

Megan + Bri: An Intimate State Capitol Wedding

This micro wedding was super sweet and colorful!

Megan + Bri met at a roller derby after party at Plan B, spent the evening talking about My Little Pony, and everything just clicked from there! They love spending time together fishing, hiking, watching PBS, and playing games, or cuddling with their two kitties, Little and Georgia!

Their wedding was very intimate, with just their two sets of parents, Bri's sister, and Megan's aunt, and was absolutely lovely. Megan's dad bought a rainbow umbrella in case of rain, and while it wasn't originally part of the plan, pretty much everyone in attendance had their picture taken with the umbrella, even Judge Kloppenburg!

It was such an honor to photograph their wedding, celebrate with them, and cheer with the bystanders at the Capitol building when they said 'I Do'! Congratulations to Megan + Bri!

Carrie + Tom: A Fun Library Wedding with Trivia!

This wedding replaced first dances with some kickass Geeks Who Drink Trivia!

Carrie + Tom have just about the greatest 'meet cute' story you've ever heard. They actually became roommates when they both moved up to Madison to work for Epic, and lived together for quite a while before they started dating! They bonded over Vincent Price movies, Edgar Allen Poe, wonderful Wisconsin beer, and surreal cartoons. They eventually decided to start dating (all while still being roommates)!

How is that for a great way to start things off?

For their wedding day, they definitely did it their way, including having Geeks Who Drink Trivia in place of dancing! (It was so fun to see the tables competing for first prize!) They also had a custom house crest (House of Crowlack) designed that combines their two last names into a SUPER sweet and mythical house beast!

Congratulations to Carrie + Tom! It's been so wonderful getting to know you two and we are thrilled to have been able to celebrate your wedding with you! If you'd also like to check out their Engagement photos, click here

Mary + Tanya: A Romantic Downtown Madison Wedding

A sweet and enthusiastic wedding celebration!

Mary + Tanya met at a New Year's Eve Party in 2016 and started dating after their first real hangout at the Crystal Corner Bar on Willy Street (a Madison staple!) I think the story of their engagement, in particular, really tells you just how excited these two were to start their life together! The couple took a vacation to Florence, Italy, and even though Tanya had a ring waiting back home, and a proposal planned involving the their kitten, she was so excited that she spilled the beans about the proposal one night in Florence, after a particularly romantic Rick Steve's "Renaissance Walk," audio tour. They picked out a placeholder ring at one of the many gold and sliver shops along the Ponte Vecchio and celebrated by eating gelato everyday until returning home.

That enthusiasm carried over into every aspect of their engagement (check out these FREAKIN' ADORABLE engagement photos by clicking here) and into their wedding day! We see a lot of amazingly in love couples, and you could tell how incredibly devoted Tanya + Mary are to each other in how excited they were to see each other for their first look, how they held hands, and looked at each other all throughout the day, how they both teared up during their wedding ceremony, and how much they danced and laughed and celebrated at the reception!

It was an honor to celebrate with them, and we are wishing all the happiness in the world! Congrats Mary + Tanya!

Alyssa + Tyler: A Fun-Loving Downtown Madison Wedding!

Mission #1: Have fun and celebrate!

When I first met with Alyssa + Tyler, I remember they were both super clear about their wedding day priorities. First, get married, second, have fun! They wanted to make sure their guests, and their friends in the wedding party were going to have a blast, and they absolutely accomplished both goals!

Alyssa + Tyler had their first date a little over 5 years ago, after meeting through mutual friends at UW Eau Claire (both friends were members of the wedding party, and are getting married themselves next year). They moved to Madison in August of 2015, and spend a lot of time camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and biking.

When it came to planning their wedding, I loved all of the classic details they picked, and how they focused on things that were bound to help everyone have a good time! Following the ceremony at Pres House, the wedding party went to the Silver Dollar (where Rob and I got to play Jukebox DJ) and hung out, before heading over to the Capitol building, and the newly remodeled Brocach on the square! Normally the couples' photos are a more intimate affair, but Alyssa + Tyler had quite an audience as we were taking their photos on the Capitol lawn, and somehow managed to keep a straight face!

The reception, hosted at Madison Masonic Center, had great food, great desserts (seriously, they had Cookie Monster cupcakes that were to die for), and awesome music, courtesy of Sava with Jukebox Bandstand. Sava kept everyone on the dance floor, right up through the arrival of Bucky Badger! (Side Note: I freaking love when Bucky Badger crashes a wedding!) When we headed out, the bride, groom, and wedding party, plus a whole bunch of guests were dancing up a storm and having a ball.

I'd say mission accomplished!

Congrats to Alyssa + Tyler! We could not be more excited to have been a part of your wedding day!

Holly + Richard: An April Showers Wedding Day

They met BECAUSE of a nap...

That's right, you heard me. A nap. Holly + Richard had never met before a mutual friend of theirs invited them both out, and then decided to go take a nap (there's a longer story there, but she tells it better), leaving the two of them alone to get to know each other. Once their friend woke back up, she found that Holly + Richard were still chatting away, having a great time. Richard ended up asking Holly to go on a date with him the following evening to Bonfyre (famously, Richard said while she wasn't the first date he'd taken to Bonfyre, he was really happy that she would be the last), and the rest is history!

Holly + Richard celebrated their love story at the Madison Central Library, and one of my favorite moments of the day was seeing Richard tear up as Holly and her Dad walked down the aisle towards him.

It was a beautiful, chilly, and special day, and such an amazing honor to spend it with two very cool people and their family and friends, celebrating their commitment to each other!

Daniel + Seth: A Clue-Themed WI Wedding

Daniel + Seth had one of the most fun, intimate, and creative weddings we've ever had the good fortune to photograph! I mean, who doesn't want to be involved in a  Clue-themed wedding, complete with candlesticks, lead pipes, and  toy guns for props?! The ceremony held in Olbrich Conservatory in Madison, WI, and the reception at Louisianne's in Middleton, WI. The amazing cake (seriously, wait until you see it!) was made by Gigi's and make sure to scroll all the way to the end to see the surprise this cake (and these two awesome grooms) had in store for these wedding guests!

Krystin + Tim: Magical DOwntown Wi Wedding

Kristin + Tim have known each other for years. To hear them tell the story, there were a lot of near misses when it came to the start of their relationship, but eventually, following a pre-dawn hangout and some delicious pastries, it all came together. I'm happy to say the same thing about the wedding (with extra !!!) in that they planned this phenomenal, personal, and magical wedding in about two months (can someone give Krystin a medal already?!), and wow did it turn out lovely! There was the venue (who doesn't love Madison Children's Museum?!), the jaw-dropping florals from Lewiston Farms, Delicious cake from Karen the Cake Lady, and finally, the super fun live band experience that only The Red Hot Horn Dawgs can bring! The weather even cooperated! It was such a treat to work with these two lovebirds, and we're so excited to share these photos with you.
